HC1 to claim for help with health costs

The HC1 certificate allows those on a low income to get help with the following health costs:

  • Prescriptions
  • Dentist charges
  • Travel to hospital for NHS treatment
  • Eye tests

However if you or your partner are receiving the following benefits you will already be entitled to full help with health costs and do not need to apply for an HC1:

  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit
  • Guarantee Credit
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance

See the Prescription Pricing Authority website to request a copy of the HC1 form, or pick one up from a Social Security office, NHS hospital, your doctor, dentist or optician. Alternatively, telephone 0845 850 1166.
