Service offered:

The patient will have been referred to the consultant psychiatrist who has decided admission to the day hospital is necessary. The patient may expect to have a full mental and physical examination as well as a nursing assessment. Following this there may be an assessment and intervention by the multidisciplinary team as indicated â€" this includes doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, physiotherapists and art therapists. A care plan will be formulated, monitored and evaluated throughout the admission.

Who the service is for:

The day hospital assesses and treats where possible people with any mental illness, both functional (75 and over) and organic (65 and over).

Additional information:

The referral letter must include a history of both mental and physical health plus a history of presenting condition and any risk factors (either to the patient or to others). The service does not treat patients with a primary alcohol misuse problem or people under 65 with dementia.
