Kingston Community Mental Health Team for older people and memory service

Who we are

We are a Community Mental Health Team for Older People and Specialised Memory Assessment Service.  We assess and treat people with depression, psychosis, dementia and other mental health problems that cannot be managed within primary care. We have an established team of Community Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Support Workers and a Dementia Nurse Specialist. We also have highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrists and a Psychologist which help to assess an diagnose mental health issues in older adults.

Who is the service for

We provide services for older people aged 75 and over with a mental health problem but we also accept referrals of younger people where frailty is of a level where their needs can be best met by this service.  We accept referrals to the Memory Service of people younger than 75 where memory is the primary concern. We also assess and treat people who already have a diagnosis of dementia who may have additional mental health symptoms.

Who you might see / our staff

Our multi-disciplinary team comprises a number of professional staff, including Consultants in Old Age Psychiatry, Social Workers, Community Psychiatric Nurses, Psychologist, Occupational Therapists, Recovery Support Workers and administrative staff.  You may have contact with, or meet some, or all of this group of people depending on your particular health and social care needs and the level of care required during your time with us.  They are all here to assist in working with you to  improve your health.

What you can expect

We assess and treat people with depression, psychosis, dementia and other mental health problems that cannot be managed within Primary Care. Everyone who uses our services first gets an assessment of their mental health needs and a plan of the care and support they will receive. They will also will also have one named person who co-ordinates their care and support. This person will be called either a named professional  or, if your needs are more complex,  a care co-ordinator. This person should be your main point of contact.  You can speak to them about how your treatment and support are going. Referrals

Referral to our team is via the central Kingston and Richmond Assessment Team initially by letter, fax or telephone with current details and medical history.  Most of our referrals are from primary care services.
