BDD screening service

psychological screening for patients seeking cosmetic interventions

NICE guidance clearly recommends that people with suspected or diagnosed BDD seeking cosmetic surgery or dermatological treatment should be assessed by a mental health professional with specific expertise in the management of BDD. It is also a requirement usually placed by the commissioners of cosmetic services in many areas.

We run a nationwide screening service for such assessments and offer a cost effective package. All such assessments are performed by clinicians with specific expertise in the management of BDD.

We accept referrals from cosmetic surgeons, dermatologists, dentists, health and social care professionals and GPs anywhere in the United Kingdom.

BDD assessment service

Specialist assessment for BDD, formulation of problems and needs, advise on clinical and pharmacological interventions, and suitability for cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for BDD.

All such assessments are performed by senior British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) accredited clinicians with specific expertise in the management of BDD and are reviewed by the multidisciplinary team of senior clinicians.

BDD treatment services

We provide home based treatment for patients with BDD aged 18 and above, in line with the current NICE guidance. This treatment is usually suitable for patients who have failed a trial of outpatient treatment or patients who are unable to attend outpatient appointments due to the nature of their illness.

Our inpatient unit offers 24 hours nursing care for patients with severe treatment refractory BDD. Our team includes nurses and occupational therapists with specific expertise in treatment of BDD, BABCP accredited CBT therapists and specialist doctors experienced in pharmacotherapy of BDD. Patients meeting the criteria for treatment with NICE Tier 6 (Please see the stepped care model).
