SWLSTG Recovery College is celebrating Time to Talk Day

South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust will be celebrating Time to Talk Day on Thursday 4 February 2016.

The Trust's Recovery College - a pioneering educational facility and the first in the UK, providing self management courses to support recovery for patients, their families, friends, carers and staff - will be running an 'brew and breather' event, encouraging college students and guests to take time out of their busy every-day lives to chat about mental health over a cup of tea.

They will join the many healthcare and support organisations across the UK to get local people talking about mental health and help end the misconceptions around it.

Mental health problems affect 1 in 4 people every year, yet too often people are afraid to talk about their experiences because they fear it will affect their jobs or relationships. The Recovery College will be discussing issues around stigma and fear on the day to help people to start opening up about their experiences with mental health.

The Trust's Recovery College provides a range of courses and resources for patients and their families, friends, and carers. It also provides courses for Trust staff. The college aims to support people become experts in their own care and for their families, friends, carers and staff to better understand mental health conditions and support people in their recovery journey.

Jeremy Coutinho, Manager at the Recovery College said:

"We are proud to be supporting Time to Talk Day 2016.

"We firmly believe talking about mental health is the best way to aid recovery and help others going through similar issues. Our courses aim to help our patients and those caring for them with their mental health and well-being, and we encourage students to share strategies, find out about local resources and try to discover ways in which they can cope as positively as possible with the future."

"Get in contact with us and find out more about what we can offer you".
