National Deaf Services

Child and family service

The service treats Deaf children and Deaf young people under the age of 18 with emotional, behavioural and mental health problems, working with the family. It also specifically works with families as a unit in its Family Therapy Clinic.

The team sees children at High Trees (the outpatient unit at Springfield University Hospital). Treatment may involve working with and consulting schools and other agencies. The team sees children with a wide range of problems from fears and worries to difficult and challenging behaviour. The team uses a wide range of therapeutic interventions including family work, counselling, psychotherapy, behavioural and medical treatments.

The Family Therapy Clinic

We provide the only family therapy clinic specifically for deaf people.

The clinic is staffed by members of the Child and Family Team. The clinic sees families referred both from within and outside the service.
