Plans for land use

The project has the potential to reconnect the site to the community. Plans are being developed for a logical network of new streets and blocks for improved access routes. Buildings and spaces are envisaged to give the site an urban village character, featuring:

  • offices, restaurants, retail shops, and other recreational and community services
  • a variety of housing options in restored listed buildings, including the 1841 Main Hospital Block
  • an open space area, Springfield park - for enjoyment of the land’s natural aspects

Mental healthcare will be provided in new facilities in two clusters. These will be on opposite sides of the central square and potentially on a peripheral site to the south next to Streatham cemetery - for more secure and secluded treatment.
