Research passports for NHS researchers

The Government's health research strategy, Best Research for Best Health, announced the introduction of research passports to make it quicker and easier to begin agreed studies.

A research passport may be issued to anyone conducting research in the NHS. One set of checks and authorisation from one NHS organisation is required, and the passport may then be used across the NHS.

This new process has been developed to streamline the arrangements for obtaining permission from NHS organisations to undertake research. Research passports will help avoid duplication of work for NHS organisations and offer consistency in application procedure for researchers.
