Part of the training in child and adolescent psychiatry is a formal academic programme. A consultant leads the programme, with contributions from other professionals; for example, a clinical psychologist when covering psychometrics.
The majority of the programme is taught by the trainees themselves, taking turns over the term. The trainees choose how to approach their subject, with help from the course leader.
The overall aim is for teaching to be useful and enjoyable, while encouraging discussion. The programme has received very positive feedback from recent trainees.

In addition, there are links with child psychiatry training schemes across London, with joint training events held every year.
