Mental ill health takes many forms, such as alcohol addiction, depression or schizophrenia. If you have any concerns about yourself, or someone you know, please visit your GP as a first step to get advice.

Information on medicines

Taking medication is the most common health care intervention. There is a wide range of information on choosing medicines for mental health in a wide range of illnesses and different medicines available.

Information is available in 13 different languages from Mental Health Teams or from your mental health pharmacist 020 3513 6829 or Medinfo@swlstg-tr.nhs.uk. Rethink has also produced a leaflet to help guide a person though choosing their medication.

Help with depression for Wandsworth residents

The Trust is running a pioneering programme in Wandsworth which enables people with depression to learn ways of managing their condition. The programme, part of a national initialtive called 'Co-Creating Health' aims to encourage and support healthcare professionals and people with long-term conditions to work together in an equal partnership.

The Mental Health Foundation
The Mental Health Foundation is a major mental health charity with an extensive list of information leaflets on depression and other common mental health problems.

MIND
MIND is the major mental health charity in the UK. It provides easily downloadable information on a wide range of mental health problems, including depression. Local services tend to cater for those with longer term mental health problems.

NICE
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is the independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on the promotion of good health, and the prevention and treatment of ill health. It has produced guidelines on a wide range of mental health problems.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists
The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional and educational body for psychiatrists in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The website provides information on a wide range of mental health problems and their treatment. Many of its can be downloaded in other languages.
