The Trust's charities

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust is supported by four dedicated charities. They provide invaluable support through generous donations of time and money. Their volunteering and fundraising activities help fund vital services, and make life more comfortable for our service users.

Morris Markowe League of Friends at Springfield University Hospital

Registered charity no. 256782

The charity made a huge contribution to the opening of the hospital’s eating disorder unit with a donation of
£1 million. More recently, it has:

  • funded patient activities and ward parties
  • bought paintings, plants and equipment for classrooms
  • donated money towards the refurbishment of several wards and departments.

The Friends of Barnes Hospital

Registered charity no. 290489

The Friends of Barnes Hospital created a beautiful therapeutic garden for the day hospital. Most recently, it has raised money for:

  • the Retreat, a peaceful and calming space at the hospital
  • Christmas gifts and parties
  • patient activities and outings.

The charity’s patron is the broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald OBE.

Surbiton and Tolworth Hospitals League of Friends

Registered charity no. 208162

The charity has been supporting Surbiton and Tolworth hospitals for more than 50 years. It is currently helping to fund a relaxation room for the acute mental illness unit at Tolworth Hospital. The charity has also provided:

  • a minibus for trips out
  • musical instruments for a band made up of mental health patients
  • equipment for mental health wards at Tolworth Hospital.

The Friends of Queen Mary’s Hospital

Registered charity no. 266438

As part of its work, the charity supports the Trust’s four mental health wards at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton. It has made donations for pictures, plants, books and entertainment for patients.
