Surveys of inpatient care

Care Quality Commission (CQC) survey 2009

Who was surveyed?

654 service users aged 16 to 64 who had been discharged after a stay of at least 48 hours in an acute or intensive care ward at the Trust between 1 July and 31 December 2008. A total of 149 responses were received - a 23% response rate.

What did the survey ask people?

Their views on each stage of their care from the moment they were admitted to hospital to the support they received after they left. Questions included the ward environment, health professionals, care and treatment, activities available and medication.

What were the findings?

The inpatient survey results for the Trust were poor, which is very disappointing.

What are we doing to improve things?

  1. A number of actions have already been taken to improve the inpatient experience.
  2. We are also developing a detailed action plan, and service users and carers will help us monitor the progress of the programme. This will be published as soon as it has been agreed by the Trust's Board of Directors.

This benchmark report contains all scored results for South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust, compared with all other trusts, for the mental health acute inpatient service users survey. Published Septemper 2009.

Inpatient ward reports

Obtaining feedback from service users and taking account of their views and priorities is vital for bringing about improvements in the quality of care. See Performance of the Trust, in Publications, for reports containing the results of people’s experience while staying in a ward.
