Springfield Hospital Regeneration
We have planning consent to redevelop and regenerate our main site at Springfield University Hospital.
Part of the site will be used for our proposed new mental health inpatient unit. The rest of the site will be used to create new houses and provide extra green space for our local community.
The redevelopment of Springfield is a major programme of investment in the local community, which will take until approximately 2023 to complete.
We have promised to work with people living near to Springfield during the redevelopment. If you would like to be contacted about the programme, or if you have any questions, email us.
Our goal is to create create a centre of excellence for mental health services by building new inpatient facilities at Springfield and to expand the community services we provide so we can deliver care closer to home. The new inpatient buildings will be funded by disposing of those parts of the site no longer needed for healthcare and this land will be used to deliver a new community within the Springfield site. Our vision for the future of the Springfield site is an attractive new mixed-use community, combining healthcare and residential neighbourhoods in a parkland setting.
We adapted the original plans after listening to the views of local residents and Wandsworth Borough Council. We reduced the density of the housing, reduced the amount of commercial and retail space and made the overall development more in keeping with the surrounding area. Our revised application was approved in June 2012.
The development will bring a broad range of benefits to both our service users and the local community:
- A new state of the art mental health centre - replacing outdated facilities to provide our patients with the best possible care
- 839 new homes - delivering high quality homes for the community
- A new 32 acre public park - providing excellent outdoor space for the local community
- A brand new primary school - investing in local children's future
- £5 million for local transport services - boosting transport links for local residents
The first stage of the development is already underway with 26 new homes to be completed by mid-2017.
Our Trust is working closely with local community groups, health organisations and the council to ensure our patients, service users and the general public are kept well-informed of the changes being made on our sites.
