Children and young people

Children and young people and their families can be referred to CAMHS (child and adolescent mental healh services)  if  children are finding it difficult to cope with family life, school or the wider world.

If these challenges are too much for family, friends or GPs to help with -  CAMHS may be able to help.

Types of problems CAMHS can help with include violent or angry behaviour, depression, eating difficulties, low self-esteem, anxiety, obsessions or compulsions, sleep problems, self-harming and the effects of abuse or traumatic events. CAMHS can also diagnose and treat serious mental health problems such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Getting in touch with CAMHS

  • speak to your GP who can refer you

    Our services

Welcome to our CAMHS service website.

CAMHS stands for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services – our teams focus on the needs of children and young people and their families. They offer help with emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties.

Our teams are based in local clinics and also we have hospital wards for children and young people who need more intensive support and treatment. Our staff will work with you to help young people and their families to find ways to cope with these stressful emotions and situations. We do this with psychological therapies, parenting skills and medication if needed.

If you are referred to one of our services you might be anxious. Hopefully the information on these pages will help to explain what happens, who you might see and how we can help.
