OCD/BDD service

Our OCD /BDD service offers assessment, diagnosis and treatment for the full range of severe, complex and resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD).

We offer treatment in the following ways:

  • We combine behavioural and cognitive methods with the latest psychopharmacological and other treatments.
  • We liaise closely with specialists who work in the neurobiology and psychopharmacology of these disorders as well as with psychotherapists of various schools.

The National OCD/BDD Service is affiliated with St George's University and is a nationally and internationally renowned treatment centre. We also offer a local service for clients living in south west London.

The National OCD/BDD service is an enhanced community service offering intensive home-based treatment, liaison work with other teams and telephone monitoring advice for patients throughout the UK. Our service assesses and treats young people with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and related conditions, including body dysmorphic disorder, tic disorders, Tourette’s syndrome, anxiety and habit disorders, including trichotillomania.

We also assess and treat OCD related anxiety disorders in young people with a developmental disorder, e.g. high functioning autism spectrum disorders or neurological conditions. We provide a range of evidence-based care packages, tailored to meet the needs of the young person and their parents or carers. Many of the young people we see are offered individual CBT, which may involve parents or carers and other family members.

Experienced, kind and knowledgeable staff

Our staff are well experienced and committed to teaching and research.  We work hard making sure our treatments are at the forefront of modern psychiatric and psychological treatment.

Each patient is fully assessed and has an individualised treatment programme. Progress is constantly monitored using questionnaires of known reliability and validity. Thus, any treatment which is not effective is discovered early and the reasons why this is the case are examined and treatment changed or modified.
